The Dakar Rally generates impressive worldwide interest across social and demographic lines. There are over 170 million fans in France, Spain, Italy and Germany alone. The Dakar appeals to the masses, whether a motorsport enthusiast or not… the public tunes into Dakar! Because of the duration and nature of this race, it is one of the first reality shows to appear on television. 250 journalists accompany the rally and four dedicated television helicopters film the entire 16-day event. Interest has grown by remarkable numbers over the last few years.

- Over 600 hours of programming broadcast across 178 countries.
- In the United States and Canada, Versus (formerly OLN) aired 16 daily half-hour segments and four hours of wrap-up coverage, and will repeat these shows in the coming months.
- In France alone, 83% of the population viewed Dakar Rally images, an average of 8.2 times each.
- Over 75 television channels broadcast the 16 daily 26-minute programs produced and distributed by the Dakar Rally during the event.
- Over 25 international television channels augmented this program with direct feeds from crews on the ground at the rally.

- Over 7,000 articles were published, with 574 million copies distributed on the Rally.
- In addition to National & Regional North American newspapers, articles also appear in nearly all major enthusiast and mainstream magazines such as Cycle World, The Robb Report, Men’s Journal, and Fortune Magazine.
